1、詞匯題(Vocabulary)

小伙伴們會被要求確定一個詞(或短語)的意思。它可能是一個難度偏大的詞(或短語)，而且從來沒有見過;或者是一個簡單的詞(或短語)，有多種不同的解釋。也就是直接考察考生的詞匯量，因此提問也是問考生文章段落中某個詞匯的具體含義。由于托福閱讀對考生的詞匯要求比較高，因此這個題型的數量也是比較多的，一般為3-5題，其題型常見的問法是：

The word X in the passage is closest in meaning to ...

The phrase X in the passage is closest in meaning to ...

In stating X, the author means that ...

例：

The word draw in paragraph 2 could best be replaced by：

a. sketch

b. pull

c. draft

d. make

2、指代題(Reference)

托福考試的閱讀部分中，小伙伴們可能會被要求選出一個詞的替代詞(代詞、形容詞)。在文章中這個詞通常位于代詞或形容詞之前，因此要回答這類問題，應該仔細研究代詞或形容詞周圍的語境。

指代題從出題形式上看似和詞匯題類似，但考察的目標卻并非大家的詞匯而是對文章不同段落特定內容的理解。對于不擅長返回原文尋找的同學來說需要花費較多時間解題。當然這類題目數量并不多，大概在0-2題之間。一般出題形式為：

The word X in the passage refers to ...

例：

The word it in paragraph 1 refers to：

a. way

b. water

c. sink

d. drain

3、句子簡化題(Sentence Simplification)

簡化題要求考生根據原文中的句子選擇一個能夠表達其主要含義的選項句子。

這個題型在托福閱讀中出現數量較少，每篇文章可能只有1題或者沒有。既考大家對句子的理解也考察考生對句子結構的認識，提問方式也是比較固定的：

Which of the following best expresses the essential information in the highlighted sentence? Incorrect answer change the meaning in important ways or leave out essential information.

例：

Which of the sentences below best expresses the essential information in the highlighted sentence in the passage? Incorrect choices change the meaning in important ways or leave out essential information.

a. The density of the Great Red Spot is much higher than that of the Earth.

b. If the diameter of the Great Red Spot were doubled, it would equal that of the Earth.

c. By placing the Earth next to the Great Red Spot, one could see that the Earth has a much smaller diameter.

d. Because the Earth is close to the Great Red Spot, Earth is influenced by its huge size.

4、文本插入題(Insert Text)

這一部分會要求伙伴們在一篇文章中插入一段句子，在不破壞文章原本結構的情況下，使之成立。

文本插入題為必考題型，每篇閱讀固定會有1題。這個題型出題形式比較有特色，會在一個段落或者上下兩個段落的各處給出4個標記，然后再給出一個句子要求考生選擇合適的位置插入這個文本句子。這道題也是考察大家對于文章特定段落或是段落之間銜接等方面的理解而設計的題型，出題形式是：

Look at the four squares that indicate where the following sentence could be added to the passage.

Where would the sentence best fit?

例：

Look at the four symbols [1X] that indicate where the following sentence can be added to the passage.

When one brother was killed, the remaining brother had the game invented to explain the tragic events to his mother.

5、事實信息題(Factual information)

事實信息題是托福閱讀中數量最多的題型，每篇閱讀文章中都會有3-6道。這個題型如同其字面含義，就是考察大家對閱讀文章中包含的各類信息的掌握程度。答案通常是對文章中給出的內容的重述。這就意味著正確答案往往與文章表達的想法相同，所以答案并不太難找到。這類題目的提問方式主要有：

According to the paragraph，...?

例：

According to paragraph 1, the word Dord:

a. has appeared in numerous physics and chemistry texts

b. was mistakenly added to a dictionary

c. can be used in physics and chemistry to refer to density

d. can still be found in dictionaries
